phishing
Daft name for a scam that may have serious consequences. This is the technique of sending an email purporting to be your bank asking you to log in and confirm your account details. It may look like it's from your bank but it isn't. These emails are set out in such quantity that you are bound to receive one that seems to be from your bank but please don't fall for it. If your bank wants to contact you they will write or phone, if the email is asking for account details and/or passwords delete it.
There are several variations of this scam, eBay and PayPal are two that spring to mind but they all look genuine and that leads to their success.
